When it comes to good music, there are No Excuses.

Cathi Mauser

Cathi in the Sand Cathi is the lead vocals of No Excuses, the band’s first female vocalist and a powerful presence in the group. She started singing in church choir at age 7. She later joined a group of a capella singers who recorded harmonies for the Corvallis Theater. After moving to Hot Springs, AR, she fell in love with the blues.

“I was asked by a member of the Spa City Blues Association, ‘What does a girl from Oregon know about singing the blues?’ I answered, ‘The blues comes from within. If you’ve felt struggle or pain in your life, you can sing the blues.’”

She moved back to Washington state to be closer to family. Going to music jams and auditions, she met guitarist Lee Waddell and everything started falling into place. In the midst of writing blues and rock songs, Lee introduced her to drummer John Westfall and bass and keyboard player Ray Ryder. They all decided to reform Ray’s original band, No Excuses, and here she is, right where she belongs.
